With the negative publicity that other social networking sites are receiving, Friendoozle has launched a Conservative, Tea Party Friendly, social network that will enable a safe place for like minded persons to discuss conservative ideas. Friendoozle does not abrogate your right to free speech nor does it discourage respectful discussions. Political correctness has crippled free speech and Friendoozle encourages it.

Friendoozle, originally founded in 2002, has been offering friends and family a safe portal to stay in touch. The social network was launched to promote a "G" rated alternative to the other services, one that is safe for kids, as well as providing tools and features for the most sophisticated social network users. "Friendoozle decided to include the patriots social networking ability to their already existing "G" rated, pastor endorsed services including their integration of Skype.

From an Excerpt of an Interview with Friendoozle's Technology Director

"We were pleased with Microsoft's purchase of Skype. With Microsoft's backing Skype will benefit from their vast pool of talent and capital that will provide for continued enhancements and developments of the Skype software. The added stability they will bring should benefit Skype's robust user base with a record 10 plus million concurrent sessions - a record set not too long ago. For those who have never experienced Skype it is certainly a formidable and deserving video calling solution plus more."

That familiar name sent me flashing back to the days of dial up modems and busy signals. I wondered what had become of the largest "walled garden" internet platform. A little research on the internet yielded some very interesting facts that I did not realize.

AOL grew from the gaming industry among forgotten giants from the likes of Atari, Commodore Computer, and little known at the time Apple computer. AOL was at that time operating as Control Video Corporation which sought to offer a radical idea to the gaming industry. The technology that CVC was trying to get the online gaming console manufacturers to invest in was an online game portal where users would pay to play online games. Games would be available to download into their gaming console, played and then when the console was powered down the download would be dumped. Imagine that, a technology centered around a gaming console and online games - how preposterous. How on earth would that ever prove to be a money-maker.

<iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/1npzZu83AfU?wmode=transparent" wmode="Opaque"frameborder="0" allowfullscreen>

In early 1991 AOL for DOS was rolled out. In 1992 AOL for Windows 3.1 and Apple was released and gave us that look and feel of the familiar AOL interface. That traditional interface with its' comforting and consoling "Welcome, You've Got Mail" became ingrained into our culture. These were signs of the arrival of a new form of entertainment and information - the official arrival of the internet for the general public. The online bulletin boards (BBSs) that were once only available to the geeks now were opened to a hungry public. Thanks to the AOLs, Compuservs, and Prodigys the internet as we now know it had arrived.

There are still a few who connect to the internet by dial up. For those of us have become accustomed to high speed connections and smart phones that connect easily and routinely to the internet it is nice to reflect and see that the vision of the internet's designers and predecessors was way back then - it is truly a small world after all. If you are ever curious or wanted a walk down memory lane AOL still makes that traditional connection interface available for free download. Within that "walled garden", familiar interface you will still find those comforting log on welcoming messages, "Welcome, You've Got Mail".

The Interface of AOL's Ver 9.7 Desktop still looks quite the same

It just doesn't seem right, we fought upgrading to Vista and boy are we glad we did. Now Microsoft is nudging us off our familiar and trusted operating system XP. You have fought the good fight and now the battle is over migrate or else - or so they want you to believe.

There is little doubt that XP has been the most stable workhorse of Microsoft's line of OSes - I was a fan of Windows 2000 myself - and now XP is being retired as system builders move into Windows 8. As an owner of older hardware, which works just fine by the way, that is not quite "beefy" enough for Windows 7 what am I to do?

You can choose to upgrade to Windows 7 and suffer the downside that your user experience may rate low on Windows 7's Performance Assessment, however, your current PC might run Windows 7 just fine.

You may not care that your hardware rates at a 2.9 out of 7.9 and that is fine because the performance assessment value is kind of an arbitrary number anyway. If your PC boots and runs somewhat stable then an upgrade to Windows 7 may be a good move to avoid the XP - IE 8 trap.

There is another alternative that many users may want to consider - Linux. It doesn't really matter much which flavor you choose; Fedora Core, CentOS, Mandrake, Ubuntu or many others in the list what matters is the time you need to invest to learn a new OS. If you like solving complicated puzzles then Linux might be a viable alternative. It is worth considering. Learning a new OS is a good thing, in fact, learning anything new keeps you sharp. You just don't want to become a "cave dweller" and lose all touch with the world outside.

The third option is what I elect to do. Do nothing, just keep old reliable running, with a slight modification. Download Firefox and wean yourself off of Internet Explorer altogether.

As long as Firefox (Mozilla) keeps supporting XP you will be just fine - for the short term anyway. There are certain software that will begin to drop support for XP like anti-virus software. Have no fear, at least short term, there are a lot of alternatives available. Just consider your stand against the Microsoft machine temporary and use your time extension with Firefox to analyze which direction to go in. Whether it be Linux, Windows 7, or throwing out the old hardware and buying new with Windows 8. With any luck XP will outlive your current hardware and it will be time to upgrade anyway.

Fox's most watched paranormal investigative reality series is bigger and badder in 2012. Tune in Sept. 5th and join the TAPS crew as Jason and crew start their first season without Grant Wilson. Join Taps as they check out claims of paranormal phenomena in new and exciting investigations Wednesdays on ScFi channel. We will be watching!

Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson, along with other team members who belong to the group they founded, The Atlantic Paranormal Society (TAPS) have become a favorite among fans as they investigate locations that are allegedly haunted while paying close attention to any history that particular location may have. Rather than looking for definitive proof of the existence of paranormal activity TAPS does not believe every piece of evidence gathered is proof of the paranormal. They believe that in order to establish credibility within their investigations, evidence should be debunked by searching for reasonable explanations for things such as "cold spots" (that may be drafty doors or windows), "moving objects" (that may have been bumped or moved), "phantom lights" (that may be lights from cars on the street), and "strange noises" (that may be noisy plumbing or just normal settling noises).

The Ghost Hunters investigative team:

Jason Hawes - Producer, Lead Investigator/TAPS Founder

Grant Wilson - Producer, Lead Investigator/TAPS Co-founder (Now Retired)

Steve Gonsalves - Technical Manager/Evidence Analyst

Dave Tango - Investigator/Evidence Analyst

Ami Bruni- Investigator/Case Manager

Britt Griffith- Investigator

Adam Berry- Investigator

Jason and Grant each cite their interest in paranormal investigation as a result of independent experiences they each have had. They also have another aspect of their lives in common as they both were plumbers for Roto-Rooter. In the earlier episodes this was featured as Jason and Grant were depicted as finishing up a Roto-Rooter job just as they received that all important cell phone call from their case manager telling them about the newest call for help. Since their roles as plumbers for Roto-Rooter has declined in the show, they now are just spokesmen and use the equipment to advertise their sponsors including Roto-Rooter.

Friendoozle staff - especially Bubbies - are long time fans of the show and look forward to watching this new 2012 - 2013 season. We are really going to miss Grant!!!

General Motors Volt - successor to the EV1?

The Government likes to talk about America’s addiction to foreign oil. With their acquisition of General Motors the administration had an opportunity to force GM to move in a more “green” direction. We certainly know that they already possess the technology. It is not surprising that they chose not to act on it, rather they chose to bilk the taxpayer out of billions of dollars to retool their manufacturing facilities to produce the their new green car.

One provision in the “Bail Out Bill” allocated some $25 Billion for automakers with few strings attached. The plan only required the money be spent to retool and develop fuel-efficient technology for vehicles. Since the auto-manufacturers have already spent millions in developing fuel-efficient technology this would free up bailout funds to be used as they see fit. Keep in mind that General Motors already manufactures natural gas vehicles but they are not available in the United States. GM instead exports that product line to Europe, Asia, South America and elsewhere, just not in the USA. At an auto show in Switzerland General Motors CEO Rick Wagoner discussed GM’s efforts to improve foreign markets for their natural gas product line. If there is a natural gas vehicle already in production why is the taxpayer on the hook to have it produced for the US market and where is the justification of the dollars required to do this?

GM has not been forthcoming and fair with the US consumer. GM was involved in the scandal surrounding the EV1-the electric car that was secretly shredded after California lifted its’ zero emissions mandate in the 1990s.
The EV1, a plug-in car, was capable of 110 miles on a single charge. Many Hollywood types such as Tom Hanks were given the opportunity to test the vehicle over a two-year period as part of a GM sponsored lease program. When the lease expired the cars were returned to GM and subsequently destroyed. GM citing the vehicle was too expensive to manufacture denied several celebrity end-of-lease purchase attempts. As a side note to the EV1 debacle there was a new battery technology developed which GM acquired ownership of. When the EV1 program was squashed this new battery technology was sold to Texaco Oil who has chosen to "shelf" the battery.

It seems doubtful the advances in this particular battery technology will ever surface again. GM now touts the Volt – a plug-in hybrid with pitiful sales so far – as the successor to the EV1. Remarkably the "so-called" successor reportedly gets a dismal 40 miles on a charge and after the battery is depleted it becomes a standard hybrid relying on a gasoline powered engine.
